Choir and orchestra perform in St. Stephens Church
'The Show Must Go On'
The
concert on March 27th turned out to be
rather different from advertised!

After the orchestral rehearsal
on the Friday night I managed to trip on a step at
St. Stephen's
and broke my arm. Luckily I was not alone as my good
friends Sandra Woolner (principle oboe who was
staying with me on Friday and Saturday nights) and
Nick Thorne (playing harpsichord at the rehearsal)
were there.
Nick finally managed to lift me up and
get me to Sandra's car. Helen Chalmers from the
choir and her doctor husband who live opposite St.
Stephen's came to assist and Helen, Sandra and I
went to A&E returning home at 3.30am Saturday.
Somehow I was helped to get ready for the concert
and conducted the Handel with my good arm (see photo
below taken in rehearsal).

Nick took over the Schubert and
the playing of the harpsichord for the Handel
Seranata which I had hoped to play. The concert took
place and I cannot thank Nick enough for his part in
it. The choir rose to the occasion adapting quickly
and easily to their new conductor for the Schubert.
I was so proud of them and I think most people
agreed that the concert was a real success.
Since then I have had constant
attention from friends, both in the choir and
others. Soon I hope to be able to dress myself and
do my hair!
Onward and upward to Salad Days
in June and our St. Stephen's concert on December 18th.
